Askold’s Grave poses a part of the park complex on the hills
of the right bank of the Dniper River. The territory was named
Hungarian rave in ancient times. According to the legend prince
Oleg killed Kiev princes Askold (who is believed to be buried
in the place of murder) and Dir near this place in 882. A wooden
church has been situated on Askold’s Grave till 1809. In 1810
the architect A. I. Melensky built a stoned church-rotunda here.
The church was rebuilt as park pavilion later. The colonnade
was added to the temple according to the project of the architect
P. G. Yurchenko. |
