Favorite recreation place of Kievites – the Dniper park is
better known as Truhanov island. The island is situated near
the left bank of the Dniper River within Kiev.
Truhanov island is mentioned as Tuhanov or Tuhonov in historical
documents. Probably the name of the island ensues from the
name of Polovetsky khan Tugorkan. At the end of the 11th century
summer place of his daughter (who was wife of Kiev prince
Svyatopolk Izyaslavich) was situated on the island. Truhanov
island is surrounded with the Dniper, e.g. its Chertoroy fork
and Dolobsku strait that is called Dolbichka by Kievites.
Southern capromontary of the island is bisected by Oldman
strait (now - Matveevsky strait) and Oldwoman strait. In the
days of old the line between Kiev and Chernigov provinces
laid on Truhanov island. The best city bitches are situated
on the island. Uncountable number of fishing stories is connected
with the island. Great many of cafes and restaurants are at
